The Best VR Games of 2022

Published on 2022-08-16

With the explosion of sales seen in 2021, VR technology is becoming much more accessible thanks to the launch of Oculus Quest 2 (now called Meta Quest). Superb Games also carried out their development of VR technology, and new video games have hit the market!

For a long time, FPS – First Person Shooters were the pinnacle of immersion through a first-person perspective. Next came the Wii, which revolutionized the way video games were consumed – all of this led to the birth of VR. Although the technology is still relatively young, quite a few video games have been released.

An immersive VR experience is magical and brings us all back to our childhood. Although still a somewhat niche platform, VR continues to evolve and manufacturers as well as developers are relentlessly seeking to innovate. Without further ado, here are the best VR games currently on the market, by their gameplay, their stories or what they offer through the lenses of our VR headsets.

Here is a selection of the best games announced for 2022.

1- Resident Evil VR

This VR game is a remake of the classic survival horror and it has already been ranked among the best horror games in virtual reality. The main character is a survivor who is called to defend themselves against undead enemies. The player is equipped with a knife, tools of war, and handguns to repel hordes of zombies. The mission is to rescue the President of the United States’ daughter, who is trapped in an infected city.

This VR game offers the best immersive settings and controls, allowing the player to customize the game. Resident Evil VII: Biohazard is a thrilling game that will pump up your adrenaline when facing an army of infected villagers, angry and ready to do anything to tear the players’ limbs off.

2- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas VR

This is undoubtedly the biggest release currently anticipated for the year 2022. San Andreas VR promises to bring the full Grand Theft Auto experience to Oculus Quest VR headphones.

3- Far Cry 3

Far Cry 3 is a first-person shooter video game set in an open world, developed by Ubisoft Montreal, in collaboration with Massive, Red Storm, Reflections and Shanghai studios. It was published by Ubisoft and released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows, in late 2012.

Far Cry 3 takes place on the paradise island of Rook Island, where the main character Jason Brody is accompanied by his two brothers Grant and Riley, his girlfriend Lisa, and Keith and Oliver, his best friends. Jason and his small group of tourists decide to parachute onto this famous island, but surprise, surprise, they are captured by pirates.

4- Hitman 3 VR

The game is a good way to put the players into the shoes of one of the most effective hit men in the videogame universe. As the name already indicates, this is the virtual reality version of Hitman 3. This means that the missions are the same as the PC editions of the game.

5- Minecraft VR

Virtual reality offers a unique gaming experience that is not available on classic consoles. Game editors are aware of this, which is why a version of a great game such as Minecraft now also exists in VR.

The principle is the same as on the PC version of the most popular “sandbox” adventure games. The player has to know how to use a pickaxe and move blocks in order to make their way through different types of landscapes. The only difference is that here the user has the feeling of being completely immersed in the game.

6- Star Wars: Squadrons

If the game Vader Immortal offers the possibility to feel the thrills of a fight with a lightsaber, Squadrons on its side allows for space fights as per the tradition of Star Wars. Indeed, the game offers a first-person view of choice to players. It gives them the feeling of sitting in the comfortable seat of an X-Wing or a TIE fighter. The game also allows the player to conduct a solo campaign with the Rebels or the Empire by opting for the spaceship of their choice. Each camp has its own version of history, where ships are fully customizable according to the mission to be accomplished. An online multiplayer mode is also available for players looking for more of a challenge.

7- Half-Life: Alyx

Released on March 23, 2020, Half-Life: Alyx is a first-person video game, playable only in virtual reality, that was developed and edited by Valve. This is one of the very first VR games released by Valve, and the American development studio did not fail – this game lived up to the expectations and hype.

8- Batman: Arkham VR

The principle of virtual reality is to offer players the same sensations as the characters they play in their game. From this point of view, Batman: Arkham VR is a success. The game effectively becomes Gotham’s most popular vigilante within 90 minutes. It positions itself as a simple autonomous police story inspired by the trilogy of Arkham games, developed by Rocksteady Studios.
