Are you a gamer at heart, always on the lookout for something new and exciting? Do you want to take your gaming experience to a new level? Virtual reality games are just what you need in this case. These are types of games that immerse you in a completely interactive experience; with these games, you can easily escape from reality. In recent years, VR games have experienced significant growth among the general public, especially gamers, since the advent of VR headsets. This includes the Oculus Quest 2, along with a catalog of games on the market, which continues to grow. Best of all, today we no longer need to have gaming PCs to live this VR experience.

Virtual reality is defined as a technology offering its users an immersion into a digitally created artificial world. It is used in various fields such as architecture, engineering, health, tourism and entertainment.

This technology then found its way naturally into the video game industry and its growth in 2015 was supported in part by the introduction of more efficient and affordable VR headsets. Nevertheless, it is the VR games that have allowed the general public to really discover the possibilities it could offer them.

Far Cry 3 is a first-person shooter video game set in an open world, developed by Ubisoft Montreal, in collaboration with Massive, Red Storm, Reflections and Shanghai studios. It was published by Ubisoft, and released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows in late 2012.

Far Cry 3 takes place on a paradise island, known as Rook Island, where the main character Jason Brody is accompanied by his two brothers Grant and Riley, his girlfriend Lisa, and Keith and Oliver, his best friends. Jason and his small group of tourists decide to parachute onto this famous island, but surprise, surprise, they are captured by pirates led by Vaas. Greedy for money, he asks for ransom in exchange for their pretty faces, but Jason manages to escape.

On September 10th, 2020, Ubisoft announced that Far Cry 3 would be released in VR. However, this is not a VR game per se, since it will only be playable in specialized rooms, including the Zero Latency VR arcade. In fact, only the Zero Latency VR rooms, which are present in 24 countries, will host Far Cry in VR: Dive Into Insanity.

The Operation

Each player receives a chest strap that includes a VR headset. All this equipment is very comfortable. Everything is explained clearly by the instructor and the interface of each game is intuitive. The rifles provided are not attached to the equipment, since they aren’t seen when wearing a VR helmet. These rifles are manufactured in a way that is a pleasant experience for right-handed individuals, and for left-handed individuals. All the equipment is handled in a natural way, and everything quickly becomes instinctive.

Virtual Reality Play Rooms

Ubisoft explained its choice to offer this support, which had already been used for Assassin’s Creed for example, because these rooms enable a better experience.

Virtual reality gaming rooms offer us new opportunities to create dynamic and memorable gaming experiences. Far Cry VR: Dive into Insanity allows players around the world to dive into the rich universe of Far Cry 3 and face its iconic villain.

You can then enjoy an experience of about thirty minutes, playable in cooperation with 8 players, with equipment and other accessories in support for even more immersion.

The Zero Latency staff equips each player with a VR headset, as well as a backpack with a fake rifle. When the game starts, an employee stays in the room, which is between 200 and 400 m2 as a guide. Although Zero Latency already offers a host of games, Far Cry VR is the first AAA to enter the world of virtual reality in an open zone. In parallel, Ubisoft is still working on the latest instalment of the saga, namely Far Cry 6.
